Please Help UN Recognize the Family in UN Development Goals

The Issue.  A critical document is being negotiated right now at UN headquarters in New York by all 192 Member States.  The problem is that the family is not even mentioned in this document, even though a number of UN documents including the founding Charter of the UN itself, recognize the importance of the family in society and encourage all member states to protect it.

If the family is left out of this key document that will outline how the UN will proceed for years to come, the institution of the family will be further weakened and undermined.
This outcome document from this "Summit" regarding the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will be agreed upon by virtually all of the countries in the world.  This will be the guiding document for UN Member States and UN programs moving forward.  It is critical that the family be recognized in this document, especially in critical areas such as improving maternal and child health.

You can easily send a suggested email to 168 key UN delegations urging them to include positive references to the family in the document now being negotiated by simply filling in the information in the boxes below.  Your name will automatically be included in the email.

Excellency,

I am concerned that the Millennium Summit outcome document does not recognize the importance of the family in achieving key goals such as improving child and maternal health and expanding access to community based healthcare.  This is especially disturbing because a number of consensus UN documents, including the UN Charter itself, recognize the importance of the family as the basic unit of society.

It is critical that the family be recognized as an important stakeholder with regard to child and maternal health.

I urge you to work to include references to the family and its importance to achieving these and other MDG goals.
